Any North Carolina resident over the age of 5 may receive a free library card upon completing an application.
To obtain a library card, come to the main library or any of the library's branches. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent, legal guardian or grandparent present to co-sign the child's library card application. The parent, legal guardian, or grandparent must have a valid SML card to co-sign the child's library card application. Adults must show a government issued picture ID with a North Carolina address on it in order to fill out a library card application.
Library cards are valid for 20 years for adults and 10 years for children. Replacement cards cost $2.00 and may be obtained at the main library or any of the library's branches. To retrieve the library card number without replacing the card itself for public computer access costs 25 cents. There is no charge to check out without your library card.
