Want to know more about your family history or Greenville's past? The staff at Sheppard Memorial Library can help!

SML offers more than 2,000 books on family history, local history, N.C. history, genealogical references, printed census records, historic Greenville city directories, and old Greenville phone books. The library has several computers dedicated to searching Ancestry.com.

Patrons also have access to over 40 genealogical quarterlies. The library has the Daily Reflector on microfilm from 1882 to the present as well.

Ancestry: Library Edition - The most comprehensive, international genealogical information tool available online with thousands of collections registered names containing more than 5 billion names. Access censuses, vital records, immigration records, family histories, military records, court documents, directories, photos, maps and more. Access is available from home through March 31, 2021.

Black Life in America - The experience and impact of African Americans as recorded by the news media.

The Daily Reflector - The daily newspaper of Greenville, North Carolina.

Digital NC - Explore the history and culture of North Carolina through original materials from cultural heritage repositories across North Carolina.

East Carolina University's Special Collections Division - An archive of primary documents, histories and digitized items, many dealing with North Carolina.

Heritage Hub - Explore your family history with the premier collection of U.S. obituaries and death notices for in-depth genealogical research from 1704 – today. HeritageHub helps you easily identify relatives, uncover new information and potentially unknown family members. Includes deep coverage from all 50 states, hard-to-find content from the mid 1900’s, and original obituary images. Access is available 24/7.

HeritageQuest Online Comprehensive genealogy database that contains census records, revolutionary war records, Freedman's Bank records, and more. 

NCLive - Offers the citizens of North Carolina online access to complete articles from over 5,500 newspapers, journals, magazines, and encyclopedias, indexing for over 15,000 periodical titles, and access to over 22,000 electronic books.

Pitt County Family Researchers - A nonprofit organization that specializes in genealogical research in Pitt County.

Pitt County Genealogical Quarterly - The publication of the Pitt County Family Researchers in digital form.

Pitt County Historical Society - A nonprofit organization dedicated to preserve and increase awareness of Pitt County history.

Sanborn Fire Maps - Digital access to historical maps of various towns and cities in North Carolina from 1867-1970.
